Cardio workouts are exercises anyone can do with or without special equipment. The goal is to maintain a fit body and healthy blood flow by performing regular high intensity work, tailored to each individual’s heart rate and age. It is important to know that cardio workouts are not designed to increase muscle mass.
The great thing about doing cardio work at home is that you can choose exercises that are fun and easy to do. You really don’t need a gym for the most efficient routines. The 3 basic activities you can engage in are walking, running and cycling.
Of course all of these can be done using stationary equipment at home or at a gym but it is not entirely the same, especially for people that don’t like the loudness of such spaces. Swimming is one of the most important routines for a good cardio and physical workout but this one sadly can’t be done at home, unless you one a swimming pool. This however does not mean you can’t go to a public swimming pool as opposed to a gym provided one.
To have a good cardio workout, you need to stay focused on the task at hand but also keep a relaxed state of mind. The later is harder to achieve in a gym. When surrounded by 20 or 30 people, each one doing their own routines, some motivating themselves out loud, some with trainers that act like drill sergeants or some of the opposite sex that just look so great you can’t help but stare, it’s not at all easy to concentrate on your job.
All of these factors should make a decision come quick when it comes to home vs. gym. If it’s just about the cardio, no fancy stuff is needed, just the will to keep a correct form and heart rate, and push through the hard parts of the exercises.
Some of the best routines to do at home include jumping jacks, quads and mountain climbers. These being all somewhat stationary exercises (they don’t require more than 2ft square of room) they can be done in the morning, in the living room while watching the news. 3 sets of 3 minutes each with a one minute break between sets will give you a great wakeup call in the morning and also provide you with a healthy blood flow to start the day.
Cardio workouts can be done at any hour of the day. The more you have time and don’t skip or rush routines the better the result. One thing is sure, you definitely have more time and space at home than at a gym, where you need to coordinate with many people to find some room or free equipment for your routines.
